'TRUE MEANING OF LIFE' -- MY OPINION

'TRUE MEANING OF LIFE' -- MY OPINION

What is Life?

What is 'Life'? Most of those who reflect or think about life in any detail will consider and ponder these questions. There are as many different answers to these questions as there are people asking the questions. The definition of life can be interpreted in the following way:

1. Webster’s definitions of ‘life’ is 'the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual.' Indeed, life is a continuum of accomplishment, failure, discovery, dilemma, challenge, boredom, sadness, disappointment, appreciation, the giving and receipt of grace, empathy, peace, and love, friendship, loss etc.

2. Life is the aspect of existence that processes, acts, reacts, evaluates, and evolves through growth. The crucial difference between life and non life is that life uses energy for physical and conscious development. Life is anything that grows and eventually dies.
3. Life is active, sentient, feeling, thinking, purposive, valuing, social, respecting, relating, and caring. Unfortunately, modern society seeks meaning to life through materialism, to the detriment of our biological needs, leading to dissatisfaction and a consequent inability to find meaning. The result is an exponential increase in mental ill health. Sadly, then, many of us will not experience the satisfaction of a meaningful life journey.

4. Life is a world stage where we just come, play our part and then depart from there. It's a good metaphor to describe life as an actor playing his part on a world stage. Because in a way, life lies between birth and death. It just about living the time we get, trying to be happy against all odds and spreading a smile. People make life complicated by overthinking about it. Life is not as philosophical as people make it.

5. Life is also a process through which energy and materials are transformed. The process of life is intimately linked to story it contains. So life is only a story, so it can act only through matter.

6. Life is the embodiment of selfishness. Life is selfish because it is for itself in two ways. It is for its own survival, and it is for its own reproduction. This desire is embodied in an adaptive autocatalytic chemical system, forming life’s embodied mind.

7. In this scientific age, If we look to the biologists to define ‘life’. A biological definition would be something like, ‘Life is an arrangement of molecules with qualities of self sustenance and self replication’.

8. Philosophers and religious thinkers have attempted to give meaning to life by suggesting goals like Plato suggested the acquisition of knowledge, Aristotle to practice virtue, mental fortitude and self control. Today’s philosophers echo that life is full of absurdity, although they also tell us that we must put meaning into life by making our own values in an indifferent world. But if life is just a journey from womb to tomb, will such ‘meaning’ be sufficient to allow the traveller at journey’s end to feel that it was worthwhile?

9. The technical definition of Life is self organising chemistry which reproduces itself and passes on its evolved characteristics, encoded in DNA. In thermodynamics terms, it has the ability to reduce local entropy or disorganisation, thus locally contravening the third law of thermodynamics.

10. Life is the eternal and unbroken flow of infinite rippling simultaneous events that by a fortuitous chain has led to this universe of elements we are all suspended in.

11. Life cannot be planned. There’s fate, and there’s simple bad luck. Failure can bring crushing disappointment, or you can try and make a new plan. Life has happy surprises, small moments to cherish. It’s a matter of weighing the good and bad times. The challenge is to balance both, ending up with a life looked back on that was worth the mighty effort.

12. George Harrison Lyrics, a british musician, sang a song titled "What Is Life"? ( You Tube URL) that goes like this:

"What I feel, I can't say
But my love is there for you anytime of day
But if it's not love that you need
.............
Oh tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me who am I without you by my side"

13. SHAKESPEARE in his Macbeth wrote,

“Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”

14. In five concise and poetic lines, Shakespeare defined life as an impermanent, non self directed, unsatisfactory, limited, ever changing, and ultimately insignificant. Scientific research into the nature of life often focuses on the material, energetic, and temporal limitations within which life can exist. The temporal limit of life is known as death. In the spirit of this interpretation, the idea of being “heard no more” could imply that life constantly evolves new forms while discarding older ones.

15. Life is the realisation of its own contingency. But that’s not the end of it. It’s merely the means towards the creation of meaning. Life is thus a constant process of becoming, through creating values and meaning. Life is therefore perpetual transcendence, always moving into the future, creating the present. Life is also acceptance, the acceptance of finitude, acceptance of one’s responsibilities, acceptance of other human beings’ existence and choices.

16. Life is neither fixed nor absolute, it is ambiguous. It is the possibilities entailed by existence. Life is the consciousness of humanity, it is perception of the world and the universe. So life is sadness, life is death. Life is suffering and destruction. But life is also happiness, life is living. Life is joy and creativity. Life is finding a cause to survive, a reason not to die. It is youth and old age, with everything in between. Overall, life is beautiful. Human life is love and hate, but it can only be life when we are with others. Life as fear and hatred is not real life at all.

17. ‘What is the meaning of life?’ The meaning of life may be said as Do good, Be Good, but also to Receive Good.

18. According to Islam, the definition of 'life' goes like this:

A. Life is very meaningful and purposeful to the Believing Muslim, as he realizes that it will determine his outcome and permanent position in the Next Life. The Muslim's permanent purpose is to Surrender, Submit, Obey, in Purity and Peace to Allah the Almighty, carrying out His Orders and staying in some form of worship to Him as much as possible everyday. This includes the orders of Allah in His Book, the Holy Quran and His final Messenger and Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. To a Muslim, the whole purpose of life is "ibadah" or worship to the One True Almighty God on Terms and under His Conditions. The term "worship" to a Muslim includes any and all acts of obedience to Almighty Allah. So his purpose of life is a standing purpose; Worshipping Allah by accepting Allah's Will over his own.

B. This act of ibadah that is worshipping, thanking and extolling the Greatness Almighty Allah on His Terms and Conditions is for the Muslim, throughout his/her whole life regardless of the stage. Whether he is a child, adolescent, adult or aged person, he/she is seeking after the Will of the Almighty in all these stages. His life here on earth although short, is full of purpose and is totally meaningful within the complete framework of total submission. So, nobody should think that the life of the believer is all hardship and difficulty.

ARE WE MADE FOR A REASON? ----------

18. The meaning of life, or the answer to the question 'What is the meaning of life?', pertains to the significance of living or existence in general. Many other related questions include: 'Why are we here?', 'What is life all about?', or 'What is the purpose of existence?' There have been a large number of proposed answers to these questions from many different cultural and ideological backgrounds. The search for life's meaning has produced much philosophical, scientific, theological, and metaphysical speculation throughout history. Different people and cultures believe different things for the answer to this question.

19. The meaning of life as we perceive it is derived from philosophical and religious contemplation of, and scientific inquiries about existence, social ties, consciousness, and happiness. Many other issues are also involved, such as symbolic meaning, ontology, value, purpose, ethics, good and evil, free will, the existence of one or multiple gods, conceptions of God, the soul, and the afterlife. Scientific contributions focus primarily on describing related empirical facts about the universe, exploring the context and parameters concerning the 'how' of life.

20. 'What is the meaning of life?' Life can only have meaning if it was created for a purpose. If there is no Creator, then there can be no meaning of life. Of course, people can try to find meaning in life in different ways. We can set our goals, walth, fame, helping others and decide to devote our lives to achieving them. If we do this, then in some sense our lives seem to become about achieving wealth orname and fame, or anything, to take on that meaning. It seems possible to impose meaning on life through our own decisions and desires. Indeed, most people who ask "What is the meaning of life?" really mean something like "What goals should we set ourselves?"

21. The answer to the question "What is the meaning of life?" is "There isn’t one; it doesn’t matter what you do." If life starts off meaningless, then it must end up meaningless. The true meaning of life depends on the reason for our creation. If we want to find the meaning of life then we need to ask why we were put here.
Islam as Meaning of Life

22. In Islam, humanity's ultimate purpose is to discover their creator Almighty Allah through His signs and be grateful to Him through sincere love and devotion. This is practically shown by following the Divine guidelines revealed in the Holy Qur'an and the Tradition of the Prophet. Earthly life is a test, determining one's position of closeness to Allah in the hereafter. A person will either be close to Him and His Love in Jannah (Paradise) or far away in Jahannam (Hell).

23. For Allah's satisfaction, via the Qur'an, all Muslims must believe in God, his revelations, his angels, his messengers and in the 'Day of Judgment'. The Qur'an describes the purpose of creation as follows:

A. 'Blessed be he in whose hand is the kingdom, he is powerful over all things, who created death and life that he might examine which of you is best in deeds, and he is the Almighty, the forgiving' (Qur'an 67:1–2) and And

B. 'I (Allâh) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should be obedient (to Allah)." (Qur'an 51:56). Obedience testifies to the oneness of God in his lordship, his names, and his attributes. Terrenal life is a test; how one acts (behaves) determines whether one's soul goes to Jannat (Heaven) or to Jahannam (Hell). However, on the day of Judgement the final decision is of Allah alone.

True Meanings of Life

24. He, The Almighty Allah, who created death and life to test you as to who is best in deed and He is Exalted in Might, the Forgiving. (Quran 67:2)

To have a pure soul and experience God.
To understand the mystery of God.
To know or attain union with God.
To know oneself, know others, and know the will of heaven.
To love God and all of his creations.
To spread your religion and share it with others.
