AMAZING LOVE OF A FATHER

1. My father loved me unconditionally like all father do. He never told me he did like all fathers. Rather he demonstrated his love moment by moment, loving me in the same manner God loves me. Unconditionally. I‘m not sure when I figured out that my Dad loved me unconditionally but it was early in my life. Dad could look very serious quickly but I mostly remember his wonderful smile—he could wrinkle and move his forehead as he laughed. At some point in my life, I could visualize that he would love me no matter what, I did. Then one day it hit me, if my Dad would love me no matter what, then I am free to ask him for anything I wanted and I could do anything in his presence, good or bad and he would still love me. What a deal! But is it true or should it be true? Npt at all ---

2. So I figured the best way to respond to my father’s love was to please him and to please him I needed to know him. Not just his rules, but who Dad was in his heart, mind, and spirit. I began a lifelong commitment to knowing him better so that I might love him more—all in response to the fact that he loves me more than anything in this world. I could go on but you get the picture—I gained so much from my Dad’s unconditional love and in loving him in return. I wasn’t perfect in my response, but remained committed to pleasing Dad. I enjoyed every moment spent with him.

3. Here’s the takeaway - God loves each one of us unconditionally. And He desires that we respond to His love—by loving Him back, seeking to please Him in all we do. But we cannot do that in our own strength. We must yield to Him unconditionally, done only by His grace and in response to His call. Ours is a conditional world. I benefited greatly from my Dad’s unconditional love—and even more so from our Father’s unconditional love. 

Loving fathers are self sacrificing and protect their children. Here are few things a loving father does for his children.

1. Love Them Unconditionally.

Make sure that your children know you love them no matter what. Don’t confuse this with permissiveness. Unconditional love does nothing to encourage the wrong kind of behavior. In fact, kids who are secure in their father’s love tend to act out less, not more.

2. Grow Up.

Children want a dad. They want someone who thinks things through, makes tough decisions and engages life with responsibility. Someone they can count on.

3. Discipline.

Children appreciate an even hand, balance, accountability and love drenched discipline. It’s called consistency and without clearly defined boundaries, it is very difficult to grow up.

4. Value Education.

Don’t just read to them; read with them. Don’t just fuss about grades; get involved with their homework. Don’t just talk about learning; be a hands-on advocate. 

5. Raise Them to Leave.

The simple goal of being a family and parenting our children doesn’t look any more complicated than this. Raise them up well equipped to leave home and to establish faithful lives.

6. Teach Them to Take Responsibility.

Kids who learn how to duck responsibility and avoid cost will – sooner or later – fall flat on their faces. Loving fathers make sure their children know how to own up, clean up and move forward.

7. Teach Them to Love This Life.

The best predictor of happiness in children is happiness in their parents. If we learn how to love this life and then give that blessing to our kids, they will be well prepared for satisfaction.
